Intercity Digital Pop-Up Report

Laura Garcia Vargas

Our Intercity Digital Pop-Up brought us key insights into the future of digital surveillance.

Intercity dialogues

The Edgelands Institute hosted a series of Intercity online dialogues, bringing together participants from Geneva, Medellín, Nairobi, Cúcuta, and Houston. These conversations delved into the future of digital integrity and urban security, offering a unique platform to exchange experiences and solutions from diverse urban contexts. Rooted in local realities yet informed by global concerns, the dialogues explored critical themes ranging from surveillance and AI governance to digital rights and community safety.

The pop-up series unfolded across five key sessions, each building on the last. From a "Digital Integrity Bingo" that helped participants identify the technologies shaping their cities to deep dives into AI transparency, digital surveillance, and community-led safety initiatives, the discussions highlighted the multifaceted nature of digital integrity. The series culminated with the perspectives of Gen Z participants, underscoring their desire for understandable transparency, trustworthy participation, and agency over the technologies that shape their futures. Ultimately, the dialogues underscored that collective construction, grounded in accountability, participation, and care, is a shared imperative.
