Matza x Edgelands
Matza x Edgelands was a project led in four partner cities (Nairobi, Geneva, Medellín, and Cúcuta), resulting in a collection of artwork. Focusing on how security, surveillance, and trust play into the social contract of each of these cities, the MATZA x Edgelands project asked some of the fundamental questions about what is required to foster trust and belonging among citizens, one’s need for safety and freedom, and the ways in which digitalisation can become a real tool to improve the living conditions of a population. Artists, experts, citizens, and activists were invited to reflect upon new forms of the social contract and to take part in an experiment of co-creation. These reflections resulted in the production of multi-media artwork and art interventions in the urban space.
Here you can learn more about the curation of these four projects and explore the artwork. The documents showcasing some of the art projects are traces of past exhibitions and are thus part of our desire to also archive the ephemeral activities at Edgelands.
