Edgelands Arts

Edgelands Arts is the art program of the Edgelands Institute that embeds creative practice within our research on digital urban security and the evolving social contract. Through art residencies, artists from any discipline are invited to collaborate with researchers, drawing on Edgelands' archival material and participation in research sprints, to translate complex questions around surveillance, digital infrastructure, community and coexistente into evocative artworks. By placing artistic processes at the core of the inquiry, Edgelands Arts treats art not merely as an illustration, but as a method of research and critical reflection: a way to surface lived experiences, challenge dominant paradigms, and propose alternate imaginaries of urban living. The resulting works - which can span media such as video, installation, interactive art, performance documentation or mixed media - are intended to provoke dialogue, deepen our collective understanding of security and belonging, and help reimagine what urban social contracts might look like in a digital age.
