Social Labs

The Social Labs were platforms created by the Mi Sangre Foundation in partnership with the Edgelands Institute in Medellín and Cúcuta, Colombia. The aim of the Social Labs was to create a platform for social transformation, through collaboration and conversations between different community stakeholders (young people, social sector, private sector, public sector).

A series of discussions among citizens were organised around the issues of security, surveillance, and the ability to reimagine the social contracts in these two cities. These discussions also dealt with questions relating to the uses and the purpose of technologies, but also on the issues of trust, compassion and ethics. These community meetings resulted in guidelines and recommendations on resource allocation, data centralisation, preventive strategies, public participation, data analysis, and evidence-based decision making.

The aim of these recommendations was to foster collaboration within the community and to strive toward safer, more informed, and inclusive cities.
